Roasted Veggie wraps

Share

Maybe one of y’all know where I got these gorgeous sesame wrap breads? They were so pretty and tasty, and I cannot find them again. I thought I bought them at Walmart with the tortillas or Hungry girl flatbreads but now I cannot find them Boo too, because they were really spectacular!  This wrap sandwich contained roasted green Anaheim chills, Roasted yellow squash, zucchini and eggplant, chopped tomato and guacamole and then a little sprinkle of cilantro on this sesame bread wrapper. Way to go leftovers! Leftovers from a grilling fiesta the day before! I even had some leftover guac! So while it is definitely involved from scratch it was a quick lunch that day.

Protein Bread

Share

The lovely ladies over at Alvarado Street Bakery sent me some loaf samples of their California style Complete Protein bread and Diabetic bread and included a note that said eat right away.

Richard, Zack and I all tried them. The texture of the sprouted wheat is tasty and substantial. It makes amazing toast and sandwiches. We put some home made raspberry freezer jam on ours and fresh tomatoes and avocados on the sandwich. Both were excellent.

I make my own bread and I still really liked this and will buy it. They have lots of other sprouted grain products that I will give a try, Particularly the rye one, that sounds interesting, doesn’t it? The products seem to be available all around the U.S. They have pretty impressive distribution.

Alvarado Street Bakery’s mission is to give superior service in providing the finest quality baked goods to its valued customers nationwide by utilizing a worker owned and managed cooperative business structure and to strive to use whole grain and organic ingredients, wherever possible, to support sustainable agricultural practices and healthy living. Sneaky snack

Share

When I feel a mite “peckish” like they say in regency romance novels, if I am near grocery store that has a sushi guy, ( many of them in our area do nowadays) I get a sushi roll snack.

I love that sushi ginger and could eat it just plain. But I do like to smother my veggie sushi in it. Like this blurry picture. You can get one of these for under 5 bucks, don’t feel guilty, has some nutrition even. Tasty vegetarian snackage.

I like the ones where they have really teensy julienne veggies in them. One place near us makes that style. I have made these at home but only for more than one person.

Trumped by Turnips

Share

Ahh turnips, so sweet and crispy, I love them raw. My mom used to peel fresh vegetables and hand them to us raw to eat, including odd ones like potatoes, turnips and even raw corn from the field. The closer you are to the the soil where it was grown the more you do this, I guess?

Well I bought a whole box of turnips from the farmer’s market cheap! like 8 bucks for 40 lbs. I could not give them away! Perhaps I am the lonely only soul who loves them this much. I even told folks to try them raw, after a day they began to stink, pretty badly and my husband tossed them out, comparing them to death and stinky feet.

He said not even for a good deal would he waste the fridge space. Alas poor turnips, I knew you well—I can only sneak you in a baggie at a time. I toss them in soup all the time along with parsnips, which they also hate. I think my father liked steamed turnips, or mama, I remember eating them cooked as a kid too.

product review: Wellness mat, your sore feet will thank you-

Share

I bought myself one of these wellness mats for my kitchen over a year ago and then I bought a second one, It alleviates so much back and knee pain from standing on my ceramic tile floor and chopping veggies for hours.

This picture is of someone else’s, mine are three times this long. www.wellnessmats.com I use them to make the “L” shape of all my countertops where I knead bread, chop veggies and even under the sink where I do dishes.

I am so crazy about them! Every woman who stands in my kitchen adores them. My first was the plain surface and the second one has a design, It is more about the utility for me. My husband bought me a smaller one from another company and there just isn’t enough padding. so it is under the stove. I probably will replace it soon with one that matches better.

I saw Cat Cora stand on this for over an hour in spike heels without even a dent. Amazing. I know she doesn’t weigh that much being so petite and all, but still, spiky heels, really spiky.

I like the plain industrial style, my kitchen is not that fancy, but now they are making covers for them and more patterns and colors, whoopee!

Treat yourself to one.  Really. You. Will. Thank. Me.

Product review: zipfruit

Share

Once You open the stylish packaging of “zipfruit” you get a snack size serving of tasty crispy freeze dried goodness.

by Oregon Freeze Dry, the world’s largest custom freeze dryer, ZipKitchen is providing a fresh take on the snack world. Thanks to their experience and technology, this new line of freeze-dried ZipFruit preserves the natural essence of the original fruit, ensuring the taste and quality remains intact.

I liked them, but hope for more exotic flavors in the future like raspberries, peaches, nectarines etc. I got a free sample so I do not know how much they cost, it is a smallish amount. Just right for a quick snack or to feed a child. They were easy to open.

I heard they are available at 7-Eleven’s nationwide so should be easy for y’all to try them for yourselves.

“Due to the freeze-dried technology that Oregon Freeze Dry bestows, and the fact that all of their products are sourced, freeze-dried, packaged, and shipped from one location, helps to guarantee that the nutrition and quality of their products remain at its peak. In fact, unlike traditional dried-fruit which concentrates all of the sugars of the fruit, and is often infused with preservatives, freeze-dried products are almost nutritionally identical to the original, minus the extra water weight.
With only 35-45 calories per serving, no additives, colors, or flavorings, and a 15-month shelf-life to boot, this is definitely a snack that I would feel good about eating myself, as well as for feeding the little ones in my life.”  from their site. Strawberry Heaven

Share

As you can imagine the sample berries at the United Fresh 2012 convention were exquisite. While speaking with the Well-Pict people learned so much about their farms and the proprietary breeding programs that lead to these glossy, red all the way through, beauties.

Their berries are available year round and  are grown bi-coastal in the US. They work hard to provide a superior product that is available in most area supermarkets. I am sure you are already familiar with them.

They also have organic strawberries in limited markets.

Well-Pict has maintained a strong Florida presence to ensure consistently reliable supply of quality winter berries. They were sampling and I had to back away from the big bowls towing over with huge dark red berries! I buy these berries year round for my personal and business use. Great product, I endorse wholeheartedly. They have raspberries too.

This magnetic knife guard by Bisbell MagMates was so easy to use, works like a charm, comes in different sizes and lovely bright colors, is customizable with stickers and trim-able to fit your exact knives. Great for those times when you need to take your good knives with you or even if you store yours in a kitchen drawer. Got these to cover some great new knives I got at the IHA show. These really work.

Brightly Colored kid friendly and encourages more carrot eating! What’s not to love!  OF course, I am all for peeling the big ‘ole fresh healthy carrot yourself to put in it. LIke these-

If you only eat those “baby” peeled carrots you have forgotten what real carrots tasted like when we were kids.
